Big Lizzie was built to replace the Camel trains that were supplying Broken Hill. Due to high levels in the Murray River, Big Lizzie had to remain on the Victorian side and was put to work land clearing for Soldier Settler blocks.
At the time of its completion, it was the world’s largest tractor.
Smashing sandhills and clearing up to 20 hectares a day, Big Lizzie was instrumental in creating the newly opened blocks.
Big Lizzie can be seen at Red Cliffs, Victoria.
