Ruston’s Roses was a renowned rose garden in Renmark, South Australia. It was recognized as one of the largest and most diverse collections of roses in the Southern Hemisphere, with over 50,000 rose bushes representing more than 4,000 varieties. The garden was established by David Ruston, a passionate horticulturist whose lifelong dedication to roses has made the garden a major attraction for rose enthusiasts worldwide.
The garden showcased an impressive array of rose species, including heritage roses, modern varieties, and species roses. Visitors could wander through the beautifully maintained grounds, experiencing the vibrant colours and delightful fragrances of the roses in bloom. Ruston’s Roses also served as a significant resource for rose research and education, offering workshops and events that promote the cultivation and appreciation of roses.
After David Ruston died in 2019, the garden passed to his niece, Senator Anne Ruston, and the gardens declined. Sold to new owners, the work and cost to restore the garden’s glory was too steep, so the gardens are now closed to the public
